Help Keep Kids Safe

By Scott Bondy

For 12 years the Association of Police and Sherrifs has been working toward fighting domestic violence, a problem that mostly affect children, women and the elderly. One important way they’ve gone about it is with their Children ID Programs.

These take place all at malls, sporting events, museums and other fun and unique places. The APS comes out with face painters and finger print kits. Everyone who participates is asked to provide a recent photo (of the child), a hair sample and then they get finger printed. These records are kept by the family and are used in case of an emergency, such as when a child goes missing. As far as the face painting is concerned, well, that’s just a bonus for the kids for participating. It’s fun, easy and helps keep kids safer. Last year the APS attended over 100 events while fingerprinting 100,000 kids.

Here are some upcoming events:

Dec. 5   Children’s Hospital
Dec. 6   Stephen Oliver Mile High Karate
             Young Chefs Academy from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Dec. 13 Hammonds Candies from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Dec. 31 Children’s Museum from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
